SONIA PIRIE

I am a local quine who is enthusiastic about being part of our community.  I am actively involved as a volunteer in a variety of groups in the local area.  I enjoy being involved with Deveronvale Football Club and the opportunities that brings.  I have three grown up children and am delighted to have become a granny earlier this year.

After leaving school I gained qualifications in Childcare and Early Years learning development at Moray College.  I gained experience of working with children and families as I took on the role of nanny privately.  After having children of my own, I returned to work at Banff Primary and Whitehills Playgroup where I went on to achieve certification at SVQ 2 and SVQ3 level through my role at Whitehills Playgroup.  I remained in the role of Childcare Practitioner in Whitehills for 15 years. In 2010, my husband and I were delighted to be accepted as foster carers by Aberdeenshire council and this has brought us many learning opportunities and challenges.  I was delighted to be accepted for the position of Family Support Worker at Home-Start Deveron in June 2014 and have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of my job here.  I have been pleasantly surprised by how much I have adapted personally to having no day being the same as the last.  I particularly appreciate working 1-1 with families who need a variety of support both in the home and in the wider community.  I use all the skills I have learned from my previous roles along with new skills that I have gained through my time here to establish a variety of groups that can be accessed by all families within the Deveron area.
