Get Support

Home Visiting

What does it involve?

Home-Start Deveron support is voluntary and flexible and takes in to consideration your individual needs and requirements as a parent. Our staff and volunteers will have had parenting experience themselves and will understand the pressures and challenges parenting can bring.

Home visiting involves a volunteer visiting you in your own home for a couple of hours per week to offer you support and practical help. All of our staff and volunteers are members of the Scottish Government Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme so you know that you can trust them.

What sort of things will the volunteer do?

This depends on the difficulties you are experiencing and what kind of help you want from your volunteer, but in general it can include:
  • providing practical support and parenting advice if you are struggling with the emotional and physical demands of having a baby, young children, twins or triplets
  • playing with or reading to your children to give you a break
  • providing moral support in trying something new, for example coming along to one of our group sessions
  • being a friend if you are feeling lonely, or isolated in your community, have no family nearby and are struggling to make friends
  • providing help if you are finding it hard to cope if your child is ill or because you are ill
  • providing help if your child is disabled
  • providing support if you have been hit hard by the death of a loved one
  • providing advice and help with practical things like budgeting, cooking or healthy eating
  • helping you to attend medical and other appointments
  • helping you find out about and access local services

How do I get the support?

Contact us and tell us how we can help you.

What happens when I am referred?

Our Coordinator will visit you in your own home to have an informal chat about what you feel your support needs are and what we can do for you.  If you are happy to take up the support, we will match you with a home visiting volunteer and make arrangements for suitable visits, during which the volunteer will help you as you require.

Do I have to pay for it?

No - this is a completely free service open to all families with at least one child under the age of five years

Will anyone know that I am receiving Home-Start support?

All information we hold is kept in the strictest of confidence. Home-Start Deveron staff and volunteers will respect your privacy and never forget that you have invited them into your home.

Group Sessions

Home-Start Deveron runs groups for parents and children as detailed below. At the group sessions you will get the opportunity to meet and get to know other parents and the children will get the freedom to play, as well as some structured activities and themed play. We might include a little singing, crafts and messy play; and no session would be complete without a cuppa and a chat!

Our groups are free but we do appreciate a donation for refreshments.

Booking is advisable for our groups, and waiting lists operate for some.
